Who we are

Servicio Madrileño de Salud (SERMAS) is the administrative and management structure that integrates every public hospital and every public health service of the Madrid Regional Health System. In this project, SERMAS (beneficiary) is the legal representative of Hospital 12 de Octubre and delegates authority to the Hospital’s General Director to manage research projects. Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital 12 de Octubre is the third party linked to this hospital. Our organisation has vast experience with the management of funds for research, participating in 588 clinical trials registered in clinicaltrials.gov over many years. At a scientific level, our organisation has a total of 47 research groups, structured in 8 major scientific areas. The Paediatric Infectious Disease group has CMV, TB and HIV infections as some of its main lines of research.

Our role in DIAMONDS

The Paediatric Infectious Diseases Unit represent an integrated clinical and research structure dedicated to the clinical care of children with complex viral and bacterial infectious diseases. We will serve as a clinical work group. Our main task will be recruitment of patients under 16 years old with infectious and inflammatory diseases and sample handling and clinical database.

Our team

Professor Pablo Rojo, M.D., Ph.D is a Paediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist of Hospital 12 de Octubre who runs the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Unit and the Children and Adolescents HIV Paediatric Clinic. His main research activities are related to HIV, S. aureus nosocomial infections and congenital CMV infection. He participates as a Technical advisor for Pediatric HIV for Spanish and Equatorial Guinea Governments and has also advised WHO in Pediatric HIV treatment. He is the Chief Investigator of the EDCTP funded EMPIRICAL project.
