Micropathology Ltd is the largest dedicated rapid molecular diagnostic laboratory for infection in Europe, serving in the UK more than 200 National Health Service hospitals (including all the major infectious disease centres) and also outside the UK. The laboratory is sited within the University of Warwick Science Park; employing 28 postdoctoral staff and 6 postgraduate students.
Micropathology Ltd also provides teaching facilities for undergraduates and funds postgraduate research students (in association with major UK grant giving bodies). The Medical Director, Professor Colin G Fink has an honorary chair at the University of Warwick and contributes to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching courses. The company has over 25 years’ experience in designing and implementing assays for molecular diagnostics, which are validated to ISO and UKAS standards. Within Europe, it has the largest portfolio of organism assays under one roof.
Micropathology Ltd will be providing a comprehensive and definitive evaluation of the presence of any pathogens found in any patient samples submitted during the course of this grant funded investigation of the clinical presentation of pyrexial (fever) or inflammatory illness. This highly sensitive detection of pathogens will define the organisms associated with the clinical presentation. In this way an evaluation of host gene RNA responses with host gene upregulation as a marker of specific pathogen infection will be as accurate as possible.
